[Harp-L] I've been asked to sit in.

Not wanting to confuse you -- but there´s a case to be made for 11th pos w/ "Sweet G. B.", if, repeat if, you´re going to play the melody. Since you´re not comfortable improvising in jazz (?), the melody and small melodic improvisations can be a nice shield to hold up before you.
Starting note would be G on  C harp, so you´re off in 2nd. Surely more stable bends than 12th and 1st (requires an OB) and 2nd.
Normally no champion of 11th pos, w/ this one (and "Cry me a river") I´d go for it.

  Cheers,
  Martin

Guys a friend of mine has started a Jazz quartet,i know less than little
Abner about Jazz but he has asked if i would like to play a few numbers with
them.
They are not a 'free form' group in that most of their material is
recognisable to most people, i.e. it has a melody ;-)
As a blues player the song that first leaps out of their repertoire as 'do
able' is sweet Georgia brown'
I figure if i nail this they might be impressed enuff to ask me to
do another one..
Before i try and work it out myself i thought i would ask a kind person(is
there any other sort on the Harp L) to suggest how to approach it?
I can only confidently play in second.(I know i know).
Geez these guys(even the drummer!) can read charts.
Ah well they must like my sound and i'm cheap..2 pints will do it.
Sweet Georgia brown what do you think?
