Fw: [Harp-L] Roland Cube You Tube a fake?
Hi Tom, It's great to hear from you. Good on you, where-ever you are living?
Thankyou for the links and information [I'll get in there and take a look
around later]. You will realise I was only having a gratuitous 'cynical
joke' about the clip and I didn't mean anything nasty to anyone.I'm always
interested in harmonica useful amplifiers and I own quite a few odd things
used for busking or stripped down jamming portability. My favorite 'busking
amp' is an Australian 15 watt Ashton BSK158 Bass Busking amplifier.Although
[probably] made in China it has Rechargeable battery and is a well finished
wedge shape which is handy in many situations. It has two channels, 7
tone/volume controls, a phones out socket and three plug in sockets.Of cause
she's not as small as a Roland Cube but it has a deep mellow sound. In the
acoustic gigs I arm it up with a Digitech 200 and mike it to the P.A. for a
wooping great warm sound with the FX unit.It costs around $250 AUD I
believe. The other little set up I've used busking is a little plastic
amplified speaker made by Realistic and uses 4x C batteries.I have two of
these little amps which are small and portable but kick out a good soulfull
or slightly distorted tone.I'd avoid the plastic Danelectro belt speaker
it's a toy. I have also a Ross amplifier [$100AUD PawnBroker] which is a 15
watt practise/busking amp.I like it's mellow sound.Also I acquired a Mini
Rock [$40 second hand, it's similar to the Roland Cube].However it takes
tons of batteries and sounds pretty ordinary, in my opinion.I've never seen
these little Roland Cubes...maybe one of these days I'll give one a try.I'll
be looking forward to the day when a tube or simulated Tube version of a
busking Amp appears? Theres one for Lone Wolf to get going Ha Ha.

Billy,
Looking back in the archives of Harp-L the identity of the 'Chinese guy' has
been revealed by Mr. Slim Heilpern almost exactly a year ago (Dec. 13th 2008
to be precise): His name is Maki Yamaguchi and due to the sharp observation
and .

The funny thing is this Roland Cube 'You Tube' is a mime!Am I alone in
thinking, the guitar and harmonica playing are recorded in a studio with
tons of reverb added to the sound? I'd suppose the little amplifier sounds
nothing like this example.Do they still even make them? One moment this
Chinese guy is playing his acoustic guitar out on a park bench, next he's
hunkered down at a bar.Maybe he chugged a couple whiskey shots back at the
bar, looked up to the wall, spotted all those extinct gold vinyl
records.Noticed the recording studio where they were the records were
recorded and hustled on downtown to do his 'Misty' thing on a diatonic
judeing from the size of the harmonica? The question is who is he [maybe he's
quite well known and nearly 50 years old now].Judgeing from the library of
reel to reel revox tapes behind the bar, what time in the early '80's was
this blurry advert shot? By the way I prefer the other Chinese guy playing
his game boy synthesisers through The Roland Cube and wearing his pink
slated sunnies in his bedroom. He talks funny too.
