This video, grainy as it is, captures a typical night at B.L.U.E.S. on Halsted--this is exactly what I recall for his Sun & Mon night gigs in the late '70's & early '80's. I bet if you sort through the images you'll be able to see what Walter is using--I think it's a SF Princeton.

Then he would use a JT-30 and an oddball switchcraft in-line volume control. I doubt anything he used was modified in any way.
