[Harp-L] RE: Wireless frequencies go bye bye?

David and other wireless users,

This was the reply I received just this week from the manager of audio
solutions at Audio-Technica in Ohio when I inquired about the subject. The
700 MHz spectrum includes everything from about 698 - 803 MHz. I happen to
have a couple of units in this range. 742.10 MHz is one of them.

Audio-Technica said, and I quote:

"These systems are in the 700 MHz spectrum and will be effected by the 700
MHz auction. The FCC has made known their intention that wireless
microphones vacate the 700 MHz spectrum, but It is important to note that
they have still not ruled on this. The Professional Audio Manufactures
Alliance (PAMA) has requested a two year period for wireless microphones to
transition out of the 700 MHz band, so we will need to see how the FCC will
rule. We are encouraging customers to look for alternatives outside of the
700MHz as soon as possible because it is apparent the FCC will rule, whether
it be 2/17/09 or some time later."

And also:

"As I mentioned the FCC made their intention known to have wireless
microphones vacate the 700 MHZ spectrum, although they are yet to rule. It
is possible they may not actually rule, although you could start to having
issues with interference once those who purchased the spectrum begins to use
it."

End of quote!

I think the loss of the use of that spectrum is indeed an eventuality,

I'm shocked by the prospect my AKG 40 single-freq. wireless rig may be soon
obsolete! It's at 711 mhz. I wonder if anyone can provide me with specific
info re: the sale of freqs (and what frequencies are least likely to be
taken from for wireless instument use.

I always carry a cord anyway, but the freedom of wireless is precious, and
I'd hate to suddenly hear TV noise through my amp!
