Re: [Harp-L] Making my own amp...which Celestion?

If you don't need the beefier voice coil the Weber Signature 8 series AlNiCo's are great. Reasonably priced and a lot smaller than the 8A125. The signature is a dead on knock off of an Oxford 8-EV. It might be that the 1" voice coil's power handling of 15 watts isn't enough for your project. I have this speaker in a 4 watt Fender and I really like how it sounds. It replaced an Oxford 8-EV that I had reconed by Gregg Hopkins. Gregg had the original speaker cone kits for Oxfords. There is no difference in tone between the original and the Weber. None. I also have another Oxford that is all original. Same exact tone. Really nice compressed horn tone in the middle that breaks up but not too much if you get on it. I've never bought Celestion 8's. I do have some of their 10's and they are by far my favourite 10" speaker. These came out of a P.A. column and I think they are G-10 70's. They are not modern. If you want that Celestion sound look at the British section of the Weber site, https://taweber.powweb.com/weber/ The descriptions of how the speakers sound are generally very accurate. fjm
