I replaced two Suzuki reeds with Hering-reeds so far. I did it (like 
you mentioned) by drilling out most of the weld, then twisting of the 
reed, thats now only attached with a very small and poorly welded 
border ring to the plate.
Pat Missin's "Altered States" is the resource to find a matching reed 
that has to be installed with nut and bolt.

You won't get original Suzuki replacement reeds. No way. They simply 
wont give you any.
