[Harp-L] Wireless (was Amp purchase help)

I also want to experiment with a wireless rig and have no clue what is the

I changed the subject to reflect the part of Ross' post that I am replying to. Below is a post I
had saved from last December. I personally have zero experience with wireless rigs. Ron - FL Keys

I have been using wireless for a couple
of years. I got a really good
deal on a Nady wireless system. It has a body
pack and is for guitars,
but I can plug my own mike into it just as well,
which is what I did. I
did not want to switch to a new mike.

Nady is
an inexpensive manufacturer. I was able to obtain my system, the
UHF-16, for
about $200. It is a great performer. You should not have to
pay a whole lot
more.

Here are characteristics that are very important in considering a

wireless system.

1. Get a UHF system. The VHF frequencies are crowded
and subject to
interference.

2. Get a frequency-agile system. My Nady
covers 16 UHF channels. If you
are not frequency-agile, you run the risk of
finding yourself on a used
frequency. For example, I have had to change
channels at some casinos at
which I have played because security or other
in-house users were on my
usual channel.

3.? Get a "diversity"
system - one with two receivers and two antennas.
That way, there will be no
weak spots or places where you stand and get
a hiss resulting from weak
signal.

Again, I suggest you look at Nady (http://www.nady.com). They
have
consistently made reliable and inexpensive equipment.

Note that
"hifi" should not be a consideration in your selection. If you
have a good
mike, any contemporary system will carry the signal with
good fidelity. That
is just the state of the art in solid-state
electronics these
days.

As an amateur radio operator of 50 years, I could spew a whole
buncha
technical stuff here, but if you just follow the three points I
listed
above, you will do fine.? Good luck.
