Thanks Lawrence of the the iceworld. You're right it's wrong to assume.
Anyway, I'm not here to cause up troubles and such. So let me put out
a valuable lesson for those that want to play more advanced music.
The melodic minor scale is a great way to extend your musical
vocuabulary. Like the major scale the melodic minor has seven unique
modes which can create some really interesting sounds. It is sometimes
referred to as the jazz minor scale becuase its modes produce some of
the most commonly heard jazz lines. The melodic minor, lydian b7 and
superlocrian modes are the most important of these jazz sounds.
Take it slowly and try to learn these scales in different keys. The
melodic minor scale is C D Eb F G A B C. They work the same way as the
greek modes in that it's the same scale that starts on a different
note of the scale.
1- C jazz minor :C-D-Eb-F-G-A-B-C
2- D Dorian b9) : D-Eb-F-G-A-B-C-D
3- Eb lydian augmented: Eb-F-G-A-B-C-D-Eb - This mode is a great scale
for playing over Maj7#5 chords. It has a dreamy augmented sound to it.
4- F lydian dominant: F-G-A-B-C-D-Eb-F - The lydian dominant is a
great modern sound for playing over 7b5 chords.
5- G myxolydian b6: G-A-B-C-D-Eb-F-G
6- A locrian 2: A-B-C-D-Eb-F-G-A
7- B super locrian: B-C-D-Eb-F-G-A-B - This mode has every alteration
for a dominant chord. It can be played over any altered dominant chord
for an outside jazz sound.
