Re: [Harp-L] Beginner player here!

Hello Tony,

I agree with with smo-joe about getting control of bending and with Dave
about backing off the intensity. Not only does that give you more variation
in your play, it will likely open up your tone and allow you to develop more
control. Your reeds will also last longer.

I agree with folks about finding your own voice, but you are 17 and only 7
months into the instrument. Listen to everything you can. I actually advise
copying licks, not to become a clone of anyone, but to hear what is possible
with the instrument. While you are absorbing what others have done, you can
decide where you want to go.

I think learning songs is certainly the most fun way to learn an instrument,
but never underestimate the value of practicing scales. I would also advise
slowing down. Try learning new things at 1/2 speed.

One list member advises playing as if their is a sleeping baby in the room.
This is my philosophy as well. Others will disagree, but you will get no
single opinion here on anything, so listen to everything and take what works
for you.
