Re: [Harp-L] re: musselwhite 1970 tone

Hey Greg,
     Charley's mic is a beauty!
Wednesday I received the two mics you worked on for me,
unfortunately after I got home from my gig, but I did get to try
the JT30 shell containing the black-label CR element in rehearsal
on Thursday night. I'll also play it at two gigs tonight.
From what I can tell so far, I may well own the mother of
all harp mics! And the new potentiometer and knob are very
easy to control with my pinkie. This mic sounds great through
the 6" speaker of my Premier, very growly, yet somehow clear
and tight at the same time, with no hint of the overly emphasized,
out-of-tune difference tones that dogged my other CR element. I'm
going to have a look at the spectral response of that thing because
the sound is rich with interesting harmonics, like, when I lean into
the hole 2 draw G on a C harp, the 2nd harmonic (D) can be heard
clear as a bell. That makes for a very interesting sound! This thing
has it all over my old CR element and is way more expressive than
the nice, hot Astatic crystal element in the other mic, which has
been my favorite for years now. What really surprised me is how
well it does with the harp's high end! Not like my other CR!

Please let me know when you get the taller pot knobs come in. I'll
want to swap out on the other shell, since the shorter pot is rather
buried.

Thanks a bunch,
John Thaden
