[Harp-L] re: musselwhite 1970 tone

He's still got it too. Heard him last night outdoors in Windsor, CA. He rocked! Here's a photo of him, just so you can see what he looks like now...

That's a BlowsMeAway Productions microphone and volume control he's using, I am honored and proud to say.....

We'll both be at SPAH - come say hello!

i saw CM around then at the golden bear, across the street from the huntington beach pier. great club! gone now...
anyway, CM had either a twin or super reverb sitting on a chair right next to him, and the sound was absolutely phenominal! i've never forgotten how clean and clear the entire band was. it was loud, but not stunningly so. it was just right.
i think a lot of bands would do well to add a few highs...you get clarity and don't have to have the dang guitars up so doggone loud! not that i can't compete with them now!
so CM takes a break, and some of us headed for the boysroom...CM walks in...some guy asks, ya gonna play 'memphis' tonight? CM, with a drawl that would double what elvis had, but the same style, said yeah, second set... of course, that was back in the day when he still looked like a blues guy, with his hair not so long, and greased back.
some of my favorite CM tunes:
louisianna fog
cristo redemptor
oh heck, too many to list from back then, not to mention the continental drifter album, which, if ya got an advance demo copy, had an additional tune on it that was better than anything that made the final cut, and CM used the riff on an instrumental that went on 'one night in america'...
i really love his early stuff. i learned cross harp and chords listening to him, and try to combine the passion and intensity of butterfield with some of the riffing of CM...it's a mighty combination! :)
