I'd appeal to her sense of logic: economy and ecology:
 
tell her 3 - 4 harps at roughly $25. - $27. (American)...blown  out in a year 
or so and ending up in the garbage (landfill)...
 
...are a lot more ecologically disastrous to the environment than one  
customized harp at roughly the same cost lasting several years with perhaps only  
minor repair costs ;)
 
P.S.  Of course, the shoes wouldn't hurt either.  In my case, I  can't own 
enough boots, lol
