Re: [Harp-L] Replacement Lee Oskar Reed Plates
That sounds like the right advice. Only thing I might add here is that
I've been meaning to get a commercially made tool kit for years now,
mainly so I can have some of these groovy sounding 'reed wrenches' (may
I call them 'reed spanners' please? - I don't think 'wrenching' a
harmonica reed sounds like a good idea) But, procrastinating cheapskate
that I am, I just keep on using my pointy-nosed pliers - carefully.
Haven't had a mishap yet, though I'm sure the wrenches are easier to
use. having said that, my pliers fit every size reed. Hmm - maybe I need
a reed 'monkey wrench' (that's an adjustable spanner in my lingo BTW)

Marvin, the first thing I would do is take your feeler gauge and
"plink" the reed to see if you get a clear tone. If not, something
small may still be lodged in the reed slot. The next thing it could
be is the reed might be out of alignment, not freely vibrating in the
reed slot. At that point you'll need a reed wrench to center the
reed. This may only be a slight adjustment. Lee Oskar has a tool kit
that has a reed wrench that will fit the harmonica you have. The
third thing it could be is the gap is too low. If the tip of the reed
is too low the reed could stall or not play at all. So i would use
your feeler gauge to widen the gap. Those are the things I can think
of. I hope one of them works for you. You could also send them back
to the seller saying the 1 draw doesn't work. I would think a
reputable retailer would replace it for you.
