Re: [Harp-L] Zoom H2 follow-up
Hi Hal,
Here's a thought, now that I have about an hour of "expertise": it
comes with an adapter that screws on the bottom so that it fits on a
mic stand (with a mic holder). I would use that with a mic stand to
get it up to a height that seems reasonable, stick with the "limit 2"
for concert setting, use the foam windscreen . From that far back,
maybe use the 90 degree setting (which is on the side where the
controls are, the 120 degree setup is on the back side, 360 degrees
would be both), stereo, and try to get somewhere near the middle so
that your balance is OK. I used the highest mp3 setting, which
still would have given me over 3 hours with the included 512 card and
it seemed to sound pretty good; you could use the WAV format if you
have a bigger card since files will be larger, depends on how long
you're playing. And use good batteries if you don't have an AC
source. Good luck, let me know how it goes.
I imagine that some of the more recording-savvy guys will have
better recommendations but this should at least get you started.
You can monitor with the headphones, or do a quick playback of a
soundcheck with the phones, to see if it's going ok.

Hi John
Thank you for your wonderful overview of the Zoom H2. My new group
is playing an outdoor union picnic this Sunday. I hope I can
understand the directions well enough for a test recording. The pa
board will be about 30' from "stage". I have no clue where to place
H2. Any ideas? Me and electronics just seem to make sparks.
Thanks again,

Hi guys,
Two weeks ago I got my Zoom H2 and mentioned it on the list. As
promised, I finally took it out to a jam yesterday in a small
bar to see how it would do in a live setting with minimal setup
and have posted the results. Here's a link to what it sounded
like, basically with it sitting on a table about 8 feet away from
the "band" (some folks I know and a couple I didn't. We certainly
had never played together as a group) . I used the "limit 2"
setting for concert recording, set it at the highest mp3 option
available (I could have done a wav and converted later, once
again maybe next time. and used the 120 degree stereo mic'ing
setup . No effects on my amp, incidentally, just an old astatic
and an old Princeton reverb if anyone cares. Vocals could have
come into this better if I'd spent more than about 10 seconds
placing the recorder. I edited this down a bit, just the intro to
one tune, one more-or-less complete one and a solo from another
but hope there's enough there to get a feel for possible results
without really working at it. And my apologies, the "singing"
you hear is yours truly. Anyway, have a listen:
