Re: [Harp-L] Blues in schools etc

I do this once a year in my local school district. I spend at least half the time teaching 5 kids at each school to play through a blues progression. They get to keep their harps. We usually do two schools per year, and the local arts' council pays for it. I buy the harps, but the investment (10 for $50 Bluesband C) is quite worth it. Two of us play the gig and each get between 3 and 4 hundred. The kids remember me as the "Harmonica Guy." (A moniker I'm certainly not ashamed of).

Involving the kids in a meaningful manner insures futures gigs, and makes a larger harmonica audience!

For those of you who are seeking to expand you gigs:

You might consider a blues in schools kind of approach: You contact the
school district near where you play your gigs and do an afternoon show for the kids
-- before the evening gig for the adults.

Or a blues seminar for the local community education ...

PBS website has some ideas along this line about how you come up with the
proper wording and scheduling ("lesson plans") or maybe some information for your
own edification...
