[Harp-L] Re: Questions on Harp Positions

Hello, Victor.

On your Eb major, Richter system, 10-hole harmonica, the seven diatonic
modal positions
(no bending or overblowing needed) are, in this order:

Eb major, Ionian mode, first position of your harmonica, starts and ends on
"do".

Bb Mixolydian mode, second position of your harmonica, starts and ends on
"so" of the Eb major scale.

F Dorian mode, third position of your harmonica, starts and ends on "re" of
the Eb major scale.

C natural minor, Aeolian mode, fourth position of your harp, starts and ends
on "la" of the Eb scale.

G Phyrgian mode, fifth position of your harmonica, starts and ends on "mi"
of the Eb scale.

D Locrian mode, sixth position of your harmonica, starts and ends on "ti" of
the Eb scale.

Ab Lydian mode, seventh position of your harmonica, starts and ends on "fa"
of the Eb scale.

The above modes are "related" to the Eb Ionian (major) scale. They all use
the same key signature.
That is, they have the same spellings, but start on different notes. They
don't need bending or overblowing techniques.

Another way to find positions on your harmonica is through the use of major
scales. In that system, you will need bending and /or overblowing techniques
to play additional major scales on your harp. You will be changing the
spellings of the scales, instead of using the relative modes.
