[Harp-L] THE OTHER IRISH HARP
In amongst the cobwebs whilst cleaning out my files the other day I came across the following (circa 1995):
THE OTHER IRISH HARP:
IRISH MUSIC PLAYED ON THE HARMONICA
Many thanks to those who supplied citations.
Eddie Clarke and Joe Ryan, "Crossroads," Green Linnet, 1981.
Harmonica and fiddle duets. Five people recommend this.
Brendan Power, "New Irish Harmonica", Green Linnet.
Power, a New Zealander, is an all-Ireland champ. Four
people recommend this.
Phil, Pip, and John Murphy, "The Trip to Cullenstown", Claddagh,
1991. A whole family of harmonica players. Hammy Hamilton
highly recommends this.
Kevin Burke, with the Murphy family, "Up Close", Green Linnet.
The Murphys play two tracks with Burke here, a whole wall of
harmonicas.
Kevin Burke, Mark Graham, and Paul Kotapish, "Open House" and
"Open House: Second Story", Green Linnet. Graham plays a
few Irish tunes on harmonica on these eclectic old-time-
American/Irish/ pop conglomerations.
The Flanagan Brothers, "Around the Old Turf Fire," volume 4 of
the Library of Congress' "Folk Music in America". This has
harmonica and jew's harp recorded in 1928 for Columbia.
Sean Corcoran, Eddie Clarke, Maeve Donnelly, and Mairead Ni
Dhomhnaill, "Sailing into Walpole's Marsh", Green Linnet.
Fiddle, harmonica, and unaccompanied singing.
Randall Bays and Joel Bernstein, "The Rashers".
Harmonica and fiddle duets.
Randall Bays, Nancy Curtin and Joel Bernstein, "The Travelers
Return", and "Wind on the Water" (Foxglove Records, P.O. Box
5262, Portland, OR, 97208). Bernstein plays a few harmonica
tunes on these two albums.
The House Band, "Another Setting", Green Linnet.
This eclectic album has a tune written by Brendan Power,
called JigJazz.
I would appreciate any additions and corrections to this list.
