I do think the harps sound better afterwards. I once discussed this
procedure with Howard Levy, and he agreed that in theory at least the
sound should be less dull once deposits are removed from the reeds and
plates.
I'm not a proponent of gunk but I would be interested in hearing that theory
elucidated. I think that you are experiencing a subjective effect. My car
always seems to run better after I have washed the windshield.
If someone else cleaned the plates without you knowing, would you notice an
improvement? If someone told you that they had cleaned your plates but had
not, would you be aware of the deception?
