If you don't want to be treated in a "stereotyped" way when dealing with policemen, don't act like a "stereotyped" hippie/musician/slacker when dealing with them.
 
Best response is to remain totally neutral w/out any showing of emotion, listen carefully to what the officer says and answer the questions he asks without volunteering anything else or offering personal comments.
 
Remember, the policeman is trained to approach every situation as life/death with his life in the balance until he gets a litmus reading that you don't fall into that "stereotyped" dangerous catagory. They are trained in reading 'attitude'.
 
Once they get past a potential bad attitude, they want to get on with their business and paperwork as quick as possible with the least amount of trouble, just like the rest of us working slobs.
