Re: [Harp-L] Seydel 1847 stainless steel reed harmonica
A couple of quibbles. I don't like the paperboard boxes. I don't think
they'll hold up over time. I miss having the key stamped on the top
right side of the coverplate tab. I also miss the numbers because
that's how I know at a glance which way is which.
I also have a Marine Band Deluxe. Unfortunately mine has been
customised so I can't compare it to the 1847's. The Deluxe I have is
just incredible. How much of that is the base harmonica and how much
the custom tuning and set up is hard to say. They do come with factory
sealed combs and screwed together plates and covers. One thing I really
like about the Marine Bands is their coverplates. The open side vents
allow a wider range of expressive possibilities. The other plus for me
with the 1896 covers is you can easily fold the back tab of the cover
over and then it gets a lot harder for a lummox like me to crush the
cover. Forever reeds will be a tough score to beat. fjm
