For years, I've taken crap from the guys in my band about how much 
gear I pack: not just all the harps, but the amplifier, extra rack 
units, floor pedals, and all the cords and power adapters it takes 
to hook it all up.  It used to take me three times as long to set up 
as anyone in the band, even the drummer, and I even resorted to 
buying a small cart to truck the stuff in and out.  

Well, rather than downsizing to one of the Digitech units, I took 
the opposite tack, and bought myself a rack case, and even added a 
couple of units to make it all easier to operate.  My latest 
configuration uses eight rack units in a case with a separate 
speaker cabinet.  It can be plugged in to one electrical outlet and 
turned on and off with one power switch.  It also gives me nearly 
infinite flexibility to insert into or tap out of the signal path at 
any point, including bypassing the power amplifier and speaker 
cabinet completely if I want to go straight out to the PA.  And I 
don't have to remember a different wiring configuration depending on 
which components I've chosen to use: now I have them all!  

Yes, this is a big rig to pack around, but the problems are 
mitigated a little by the fact that I can just slap the covers on 
the front and back and carry it to the car (or put in on the 
cart!).  I can also choose whatever speaker cabinet is appropriate 
for the gig, which could be none at all.
