Re: [Harp-L] Re: Harmonica Case theft deterents
In years and years of playing dive bars I've experienced one theft
attempt. I lost pieces of my car stereo when someone attempted to pry
my pull out stereo out of the dash of my car. Ir ruined the dash and
the radio plus I lost a window but I still got to keep the pieces of my
radio. Our guitar player lost his Bronco but he'd neglected to make
payments on it. Man those repo guys were fast. I saw it going over the
hill on the hook. We lost a speaker once but that's because we left it
on the tailgate of the truck and drove off. My experience regarding
tools and metal is completely different. People walk off with tools
constantly, it's a cost of doing business and metal especially copper
and aluminium disappears if left unattended in the wrong place. I guess
this makes the brass bodied Filiskos vulnerable at 85 cents a pound. I
do think my experience is more than good luck though. We never left the
vehicle unattended when we would load out at the end of the night.
Someone always stood by until the next object would appear and I don't
leave my harmonicas unattended on the stage, ever. Bill's probably
right, the looped cable would solve any problem because it's just an
opportunist that would grab an unattended case to see what's in it once
he's found a safer place to open it. Like virtually all thefts the
damage is disproportionate to the financial reward to the thief. A case
of used harmonicas would be virtually worthless but could be almost
impossible to replace if they were customs. fjm
