Why not type one keystroke and have your symbol - hole number and
arrow, and even the number of semitones in a bend?
Using arrows from Wingdings, circled numbers from symbol fonts, etc.,
makes extra work, takes too long, and neither reads as easily nor looks
as good as a font designed for the purpose.
Fletch Diatonic and Chromatic Sans are fonts that give you a full
arrow-number symbol in one keystroke, with the arrow centered above the
number. Just set the font to Fletch or Chromatic Sans and start typing.
The top row of your keyboard - the number row - is your blow notes. The
row below is your draw notes. For chromatic harmonica, using the shift
gives you slide-in notes on the same keys. The rest of the keyboard
gives you bends, overblows, extended holes, and various ornaments,
tongue blocking symbols, etc.
If you tab a lot, or even a little, a dedicated font can save you a lot
of time and work.
