Re: [Harp-L] re: pathetic
I would like to see someone compose a listing of all harmonica
players. Well. maybe not all, but I wonder what could be used as a
criteria. For instance, would it be necessary to have a CD in
'recognized' circulation. Or would the player have to have a mention
in the press. How about proof of paid gigs. TV or radio slot(s).
Surely the number would reach into the tens of thousands.
Hell, even today I heard harp in the background of a feminine
products commercial. I never knew females PLAYED harp while indulging
in their use. Naah, I think harp is alive and well. It's just a
matter of playing well. On the subject 'Rainbow-Man' raised.
I have had occasion where other musicians looked at me incredulously
when I pulled out a long or short harp. There was even a keyboard man
who told me he didn't have any respect for harmonica players. His
reason was that 'None of em were any good'.
He did, however, love MY playing and had to modify his position.
Funny thing was: he, himself, wasn't that great a keyboard man,
preferred to play almost everything in C, and when he wasn't sure of
a tune, he would use the old ploy of fooling with the controls of his
'Ensonique' while playing very few notes at very low volume, and
shuffling music charts. Just shows to go ya.
