RE: [Harp-L] Beginner blues books/tapes

Jim,

I've used a lot of the instruction tapes/materials. Some are excellent,
many are not very good at all (and some by "big names" too!). I recently
posted to someone else on this list a lengthy message about what ones I
recommend, so go to www.harp-l.org and find that message (just search
for my name, or gindick or barrett). Basically, David Barrett has a good
structured set of materials that will take you from novice to expert
blues harp player (make sure you get his latest stuff, not the older
stuff). Goto www.harmonicamasterclass.com for the 'tree' of material.
Jon Gindick's Rock 'n Blues Harmonica book/cd are great to get started,
it's more unstructured but real fun (www.gindick.com). Jerry Portnoy's
3-cd Masterclass set is pretty good also. If you really want a jump
start look for Jon Gindick's Jam Camps or Barrett's class instruction in
your area, they travel around with these.
