RE: [Harp-L] How We Can Save the Chromatic Harmonica from PossibleExtinction
I don't think the chromatic harmonica is going extinct, that's absurd and
this sounds rather unecessarily dramatic to me, haha. Maybe someone wants to
be famous for making up a new name, who knows. Too many big names (Stevie
Wonder, etc) still use them, I still hear them on movie scores, music stores
carry them, stores like Harp House sell plenty, etc. They are fairly
ubiquitous. Even people that aren't harp players that I've met seem to know
the distinction, at least that there are two kinds of harmonicas, the
"regular" ones and the bigger ones with the button.
I still see guys lugging around those giant 3 foot long bass harps or
whatever they are at conventions and trying to play them, if those are still
around the chromatic has a long way to go before it's extinct. Everyone
knows what a chromatic harmonica is, why cause more confusion about our
instrument. People will just then confuse that term with Melodica (which is
not extinct either).

Subject: [Harp-L] How We Can Save the Chromatic Harmonica from
PossibleExtinction
Here is a letter i am posting that one of my harmonica students wrote.
I think it is an intriguing concept, though I have not had a chance to
fully analyze it.
