Re: [Harp-L] Does SPAH need harmonica competition - in brief

<<Well, basically the problem (as 'I' see it) is that the fests get NO ADVERTISING. SPAH has gone through some lean times and the coffers had been nearly drained by a frivolous law suit. But, it seems (to me at least) that some coverage BEFORE the fest is in order. I see no reason that this should cost large quantities of money, and someone somewhere should be interested in putting a 'spot' on TV. At least a local channel. >>

You are right in the fact that pre convention coverage should not cost large quatities of money. As a matter of fact, it costs NO MONEY. It is an easy matter to obtain the fax numbers for all the news media in a city and fax them a press release. The Old Philosophy did this, as well as booking appearances at the local radio stations to talk about the convention and play on air. In St. Louis,1999, we did a TV spot for one of the big 3 local channels, featuring Sunny Girl performing. Made a big difference in attendance.
