The problem with the low bends are not the reeds or deep secrets that 
Tim does not want to make public.
It is a simple physics question. For lower notes one needs bigger 
ressonance rooms. That is, your mouth/respiratory tract. And it becomes 
impossible to make such big ressonance rooms, after you get lower than 
one certain point.
But you can get better with practice, if you open up your throat wide 
enough.
