[Harp-L] # draw in 3rd
Dear Jim
If you want to use the 3 draw in 3rd pos. outside of the pure
Dorian mode approach treat it the same way you would treat the 2 blow, 5
blow or 8 blow in cross harp it is the major sixth note. You have heard it
in cross in virtually every song ever played by any one so why would you
avoid it in another position? Some instructors may initially and rightfully
steer you away from the 3 draw in 3rd pos. initially but every one who
figures out this position will want this note pretty soon afterwards
especially for a major key song. And remember in third position on a blues
tune when the band/accompanist switches to the four any cross harp licks
will work. you can hear cotton and Little Walter and everyone else take
advantage of this all the time.
If you want the 3 draw in a pure Dorian sense do like I said in my first
post.
Hope it helps
Jason
