Re: [Harp-L] Any Help out there.

Funny you should mention that, yes, the harmonica is a highly respected instrument compared to the guitar. We get guitar players telling us that all the time. Problem is guitar players are a dime a dozen nowadays. Most of my guitar friends are selling their guitars and buying harmonicas or drums to get respect.

The problem with 2 draw and 3 draw is that you are bending the airflow causing the note to choke. This is a typical problem.

One thing that should help is to make sure the hard is deep in your mouth, pucker like a chimpazee and set the harp deep in your mouth. The harp has to meet the wet part of your lips, this helps avoid choking.

Also you are probably sucking air in rather than 'breathing', in. Breathe from your diaphram (belly) to avoid sucking (and bending the airflow). Your belly should expand as you breathe in. This is an essential technique to get good tone and to do bends.

The following page explains proper breathing:

Jon's site is excellent as well:

Bad, bad Pierre.

Subject: [Harp-L] Any Help out there.

I have been playing my harp for about 6 years on and off and I am playing straight harp .. I took up the guitar and thought that would be a more respectable instrument. What I found out is every time I mention that I play harmonica that people would rather me play the Harmonica than the guitar because they like the sound it adds. That has been every thing from Bands to church groups. Can anyone please send me some web sites to improve my playing. I can hit single notes clean every time I have some difficulty with the 2 draw and three draw.

Thank you all
