Re: [Harp-L] Michael Rubin?

Damn John. What happened?

I met Michael in New York around 1999 while in line at the Blue Note. We
were both in town to see Toots. We started a conversation and I found he had
some of his cd's with him. I bought one from him. He was a fine harmonica
player. I believe he wrote many posts on this list years ago when he was
taking jazz harp lessons. He would give updates on his progress.

I recall him saying he played the harp part on Big River for a few months
while he was living in New York. A real nice guy. damn. He was one of the
good guys.

Do any of you guys know of Michael Rubin? I am going to play at his funeral
at the request of his sister. That name sounds really familiar to me. Was he
a harp-l-er at one time?

It turns out that the Michael Rubin for whom HJ will be playing is a different fellow than the one referenced by Michael Harp above and who people might remember from Harp-L posts a few years back.

The Rubin of Harp's reference above is alive and well in Austin, still gigs and still gives harp instruction. He's the one that folks might remember from SPAH last year.
