I've had one Silvertone and one Star Performer. They have a nice tone and
in terms of longevity they are probably comparable to Sp20s as opposed to
LOs. There is no such thing as a free lunch though, and their relative
cheapness is offset by the fact that you may have to do quite a bit of work
- - gapping and tuning - to get them up and running.
One thing that concerned me slightly about the Star Performer is that after
a while the thin layer of plating started to come away from the cover plate
- - in the lip-contact region - in slivers. Might just have been my
particular specimen, but I thought it worth mentioning.
