If you want to transition from Irish to blues harp, there's a Woody Guthrie
album on Folkway records with Leadbelly, Cisco Huston, and Sonny Terry that's
just fantastic. Transitioning from Irish to Woody's music shouldn't be hard,
there's similarities. Sonny Terry's playing is blues through out so it's a
nice fusion.
It will be an easy transition anyway. Most of the blues harp players played
jigs, reels, all the old traditional music at some point in their career.
Listen to a lot of the old jug bands.
Also, rather than get a ten record set of Little Walter, I'd get a variety
of CDs including some with (gasp) no harp at all on them. Play along with
John Lee Hooker, B B King, Albert Collins, Lightning Hopkins, Missisissippi
John Hurt...
