Daily Almanac - August 24
I have no events to report for today.
I recently recieved a CD from Allan Ho and it's fabulous!! Allan has been
playing harmonica for twenty years and was named World Champion on the
harmonica at the World Harmonica Champioships in 2001. He works out of Hong
Kong and on this CD he exhibits a very nice range of tastes and styles.
Dived into four sections of two to four songs each, the CD features playing
in Folk music, Classical, film music and Chinese Pop music. the Folk music
section features Spanish, English and Russian Folk songs. The Classical
section features 4 pieces of Classical music, including a new piece written
for Mr. Ho by composer David Packer. the film section features the title
tracks from "Breakfast at Tiffany's" and "Somewhere in Time". finally, the
Chinese Pop music section gives us a glimpse at the music of China today.
Each selection is outstanding. Mr. Ho approaches each piece as an
individual and graces it with a master's touch. not over playing, not
under-playing, giving each song a life of it's own. I hope to hear a lot
more of Mr. Ho in the future. His taste in music, blended with his
incredible talent certainly make him a harmonica player worth listening to.

That's all I have for today. Have fun and practice.
