Here is the solution.
Play acoustically about 6 - 12" away from your SM 58. Have the PA set up so
that you can easily hear yourself through the monitors and are cleanly heard
out front.
The acoustic harmonica is the "weak link" in the sound chain, so use it as
the benchmark. Then, have the rest of the band balance themselves to your level.
It works every time and sounds great.
However.....you must also have a band full of "reasonable" musicians who are
open to making a great live sound mix no matter what it takes. Good luck on
this aspect.
