Re: Sit-Ins (sessions)
There's a national open jam listing that shows up on rec.music.bluenote
(jazz) with all the spots around the US and comments about each. Those who
can't get and want more info, let me know.
Locally we have something akin to Gordon's situation at a local stringed
instrument store with a folk/bluegrass orientation. They host about 3 jams
a week in the evenings and weekends. I have not participated yet because
of recent busy schedule, but I hear it's very friendly, anybody sits in,
you wait your turn for the solo as they go around in a circle. I gather
it's lowkey somewhat aimed at 'instructional' but still worthwhile if you
want to practice some chops in an unassuming setting.
There are quite a few 'open mikes' here but you have to 'earn your
stripes', know a few folks. Theres a few new ones where that is less of an
issue. Chris M. could tell you more, but on any given night you can
probably play somewhere in the Mpls/St. Paul area if you wanted to.
