There is a saying among seasoned musicians to young musicians,
"if you want to learn the music you have to go to the root."

Many players, esp.. guitar and harp learn from a copying a mentor but  
never delve into the mentors mentor.

Guitarists want to play like SRV but don't take the time to listen  
and learn from the guys he learned from.
They become a boring lifeless clone.

When someone like Howard Levy sites Butterfield as an inspiration his  
young followers should take notice.
Butterfield was technical but had a truckload of soul sauce on top.  
Levy became technical but learned to keep the soul from Butter.

I hear a lot of overblow players that learn Howard's  technique but  
have zilch for soul.  Maybe they ought to back up a little
and check out PB.
