I first heard Charlie McCoy in Phoenix on KNIX fm radio. The morning DJ, W. Steven Martin would play Charlie's version of 'The Orange Blossom Special' while pretending to take a shower. I think Steve called it 'The Shower Song'.

Charlie McCoy is so great. When I first heard his instrumentals in the
70's, it blew my mind. I was so heavy into Little Walter and Jr. Wells or
whatever and then to hear his clean, fast and precise playing really opened
my eyes to the full potential of the harmonica. I used to spend summers in
Flagstaff Ariz. and the AM country station would play his instrumentals as
a background to the dog pound's pet report. "Freckles is a collie spaniel
mix, loves kids.." while the Fastest Harp in the South is playing in the
background. Wow! In my book he is without a doubt one of the top five most
important American harmonica players ever.
