I personally use one of those little handheld engravers with a diamond bit ($10-$20) for significant changes (perhaps more than 20 cents) on stainless steel reeds. Once I get within that range, I switch to ether a sanding wand or a Brownie. If you have significant changes to make to a stainless steel reed, a Brownie by itself is gonna take a relative l-o-n-g time compared to a brass or phosphor bronze reed.
