As usual this forum has proved a gold mine of enlightenment on the above
topic. Many Thanks to all the experts and "lay persons" who contributed to
the debate.

By coincidence there was a documentary on Irish television last night about
deaf parents and their hearing children. This highlighted the need for the
children in this situation to learn sign language in order to communicate
with their parents and the problems all round that this caused. However it
also showed that such families could achieve greater bonding and harmony
than regular families and that the participants were generally enriched by
the experience and seemed to evolve as "nicer people".

It occurred to me that a major loss to deaf people must be the inability to
enjoy music. I wondered whether it would be possible to make a device with
which deaf people could feel the audible frequencies through their finger
tips and whether this might give them some insight into what the rest of us
take for granted.

Neuro-Scientists anyone?
