This is not the point of perfect pitch, but just one small "proof" that it can be done. 


Having it gives music a wonderful depth of understanding beyond theory. It unlocks so many secrets of what is going on - transcribing solos with ease, hearing into chords to understand why the voicings sound so interesting.


It is not a hindrance, as one can ignore this aspect if one chooses, but why would one want to disconnect "color hearing"? It's like saying one would prefer to be color blind while looking at the turning of the fall leaves.
