No harmonica conventions in Ireland (as far as I know) but if you are into Harmonica and Irish Trad the place to go is Willie Clancy Summer School in County Clare – first week in July every year. Six mornings of fabulous informal classes with two maestros (Rick Epping and Mick Kinsella).

A steal at €140 which also gets you free into all the other instrument concerts too (Box, Fiddle, Harp. Banjo, Pipes, Flute and Whistle) Word is getting around, because last year’s Harmonica class was a “sell out gig”. If any more come this year the Church of Ireland meeting room won’t be big enough anymore. Every pub in the town of Milltown Malbay has non-stop sessions from morning till night.

Nonetheless my “Bucket List” comprises: Klingenthal, Trossingen, Bristol and the Chromatic Weekend. S.P.A.H. is a bit out of reach from here.

Alas at four score years I doubt if I will live long enough.
