I have to agree with Phil. 
Get a fakebook and try stuff out.
Use a pencil to write in your own tab in key places.
Sitting at a piano helps.
3rd postion and 12th position often work when 2nd fails with standards.

What are some tunes I can prep for a jazz-oriented jam? Chrome and short
harp.
I am pretty comfortable in bands and jams of blues, rock, and some pop
