[Harp-L] chromatic harmonica

Jason Ricci and I hired Dick as an instructor for the 2015 Harmonica Collective. He is a very interesting guy to talk with; we've had phone chats that went to 5 in the morning. The duo is a good suggestion; I'll bring it up with the entertainment committee. You're right though; there are many name harmonica players we've been trying to get for years, but the summer is hay-making time on the festival circuit and it's tough for a working musician to sacrifice that time for a low-paying harmonica event. Winslow Yerxa

   Just curious, Winslow.  Has anyone ever invited this guy to a SPAH convention or is he so busy during Summer festival season with the Geils Band that it would be pointless to ask?  Seems to me his new duet might be within affordability.  I usually read any interview I see with his name attached to it.  He always seems extremely literate and interesting; with a strong conception of what he wants the instrument to sound like.  In other words, an ideal guy to do a harmonica seminar.

I remember having some discussions with him about chromatic a little over a year ago; he was getting more interested in it. Glad to see that it's produced some performances. Winslow Yerxa

  Kind of like what Magic Dick seems to be doing these days on an
instrument I don't normally associate with him....the chromatic harmonica.

  I recall an interview he did decades ago, where he called himself a
"sound sculptor" or words to that effect.  I didn't get that at the time;
but I sort of do now.
