Many of you will be familiar with the playing of Chicago blues pianist Barrelhouse Chuck.  Chuck is one of the most accomplished, award-winning and most-recorded Chicago blues piano players in recent times--his list of session credits reads like a Who's Who of the blues.  Some of you may be most familiar with his great CD's featuring Kim Wilson although if you have much of a Chicago blues collection you're likely to hear Chuck's piano on a variety of sessions, with many different artists.  Two local Chicago TV stations recently produced segments on Chuck, honoring the man and his music.  If you google "WTTW Barrelhouse Chuck" or "WGN Barrelhouse Chuck" you'll find links to a couple of nice little clips, both of which aired a little over a week ago.  The clips also show shots of Chuck's famed collection of blues memorabilia, which is a Smithsonian-worthy assemblage of autographs, posters, recordings and photos related to Chicago blues.  The man has Sunnyland Slim's electric piano, Little Brother Montgomery's wardrobe, an Astatic given to him by Big Walter, among many, many other items.  He has devoted his life to preserving Chicago blues.


Chuck is a long time friend I've been fortunate and honored to play many gigs with him over the years.  Now, though, Chuck is in a bad way.  He's no longer able to perform, has had multiple hospitalizations this year and now has a tough time leaving the house.  His stage IV cancer has progressed to a very advanced stage.


Chuck's most recent recordings were on the Sirens label, which is owned by Steve Dolans.  Steve has set up a Go Fund Me site for people to make donations to defray Chuck's medical expenses.  You can find it here:
