[Harp-L] Harp with grip tape

As per my previous post on this topic, I ordered some clear rubbery tape
for application to my harps in order to increase their grip-ability under
sweaty conditions. The stuff arrived yesterday, and I tried it out on a
couple of harps today.

I use a 2" strip, cut in half lengthwise, and put one half on the top plate
and one on the bottom in the center of the cover plate, next to the outside
lip. As you can see from the photo, the pebbly finish doesn't look bad. It
feels good, and the harp definitely ain't going anywhere with that stuff
under your fingers.

The only drag is removing the backing from the rubbery tape. Fool that I
am, first I tried to find some way to pull the backing off with fingers. II
took me about half an hour to find out that it was never going to work. I
had better luck scraping some of the backing off with a knife and pulling
the rest, which can be done pretty quickly.

The photo shows a Seydel Session Steel festooned with the tape and with one
of the stick-on letters I use now on all my harps so I can tell what key a
harp is on a darkened stage.

Like I said in my previous post: it would be nice if stuff like this was
built in at the factory. It's not hard to do these little mods in general,
but it's a lot faster to just buy it, and I value my time more than the
couple of bucks these features would add to the price of a harp.

Thanks, Richard Hunter
