Reading music I take as meaning standard notation. i.e. piano-vocal
arrangements, for example.


   1. Freestyle jamming: no.
   2. Learning new licks, from tab, and yes from standard notation
   and transcription. (Weakness of most tab is lack of timing which is precise
   when you read music.)
   3. Show band, and studio: yes, reading music may be the way you receive
   your parts.
