> Hi,

For no reason apparent to me, my mail reader is sending responses only to the person who posted to the list and not the list itself. It’s probably an Apple thing, I’m not sure. I had posted a couple of other things about learning theory and cognitive neuroscience related to the musical notation discussion. If any of you are actually interested in the ramblings of a guy who spends a real lot of time reading the literature on how humans acquire language and how that may apply to learning music, please ask and I’ll send those posts directly to you so as to not clutter things up with items posted midway in a conversation.

Here’s the last of the posts I had hoped would go here:

Having only recently gone through the process of shopping for a one on one instructor, though, I will say that I found YouTube lessons to be a really valuable tool in making my selection. I probably tried out 20 or so different instructors on YouTube, found four or five I liked the best, did a deeper dive into their YouTube catalog and ultimately chose Tomlin and I’m really enjoying working with him. Such a decision is really subjective and while I think Tomlin is the bomb, others may find others are more compatible with their goals, personality and the like. I do try to send a few bucks to anyone with a YouTube lesson I found valuable but I do crowdfunding projects to build tech for people with disabilities, I try to help those working based on voluntary contributions when I benefit from their work.
