Re: [Harp-L] Impedance Convertors - a must have for sounding good

I carried the Audix T50 for a while. Then I A/B’d it agains the Whirlwind Little IMP that I carried and still do, as well as a Shure A95 unit and a few others. The Audix was the ONLY one that actually clearly affected tone, and not in a good way. I dropped it like a hot potato.

I DO understand the desire not to have a rigid IMT sticking out of your amp or pedal. On some amps this poses a real risk of damage to the 1/4” jack in a drop, fall-over or careless passing guitar payer. The solution? Use a different brand of IMT (I sell the whirlwind unit for $19) and a short home-made or store-bought extension cable- 1/4” female jack to 1/4” male plug. Then you get the advantage of the T50 without the compromise in tone. These cables are sometimes called “headphone extension cables”. A single trip to Google yields a number of options. Here’s a 6 footer for $1.99: http://www.trianglecables.com/product/pro-audio-14-in-mono-extension-cable-male-to-female-6-ft.aspx - and I’m sure even shorter ones are available too.
