The reason I quit using my light box several years ago was because I went to using a stereo microscope. The way I was doing them before would cause me a lot of neck pain so that was my original reason for switching, but there's nothing like the detail you can get with a microscope. However not everyone may need one, but if you do you can get some really good deals on eBay for them. If you do a lot of reeds I would go the microscope route, if you just do a little here and there a light box is fine.
